Colonel (Dr) Abraham Sunday Ayeni is a highly accomplished military medical pediatrician with over 27 years of clinical, academic and leadership experience in the Nigerian Army Medical Corps. He holds degrees and fellowships from the University of Ilorin, the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, Boston University (USA), Texila American University and the Nigerian Defence Academy, specializing in pediatrics, pediatric nutrition, public health and leadership/strategic studies.
Dr. Ayeni has served in multiple command and leadership roles, including Commanding Officer of Jaji Military Cantonment Medical Centre, Acting Commander of 2 Division Medical Services and Hospital and Commander of the Nigerian Defence Academy Hospital. As Head of Paediatrics at 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, he made notable contributions in advancing neonatal and pediatric healthcare delivery while mentoring the next generation of clinicians. He is currently the Acting Chief Medical Director of Army Command and NAOWA Hospital, Abuja.
An avid researcher, he has published widely on pediatrics, neonatal care, child health in military families and reproductive health, with several peer-reviewed journal contributions. He has also supervised and mentored upcoming medical officers and pediatricians.
Colonel Ayeni is a recipient of several military and professional honors including the Command Medal (CM), Forces Service Star (FSS), Meritorious Service Star (MSS) and Field Command Medal (FCM). He is an active member of multiple professional bodies including the Paediatrics Association of Nigeria, Nigeria Society of Paediatrics Infectious Diseases (NISPID), Child Neurological Society of Nigeria (CNSN), and Nigerian Society of Neonatal Medicine (NISONM).
Beyond medicine, he is passionate about mentorship, research and medical education. His personal interests include badminton, chess and soccer.
