Department

Public Health Department is a unique arm of the hospital that is centred on art of disease prevention, promoting and improving quality of life through organized systematic efforts.

Analysing and determination of health issues and the associated threats on the populace is the basis of Public Health, hence Health professionals in this department aims at;

  1. Reducing prevalence rate of still birth.
  2. Reducing mortality rate amongst children under the age of five years and women of child bearing age.
  3. Promoting Health and thereby enabling people to have increase control over their own health which covers a wide range of social and environmental interventions that are designed to benefit and protect people’s health and quality of life by addressing and preventing the root causes of ill health and not just focusing on treatment and cure.
  4. Ensuring good housing state and conditions for the populace.

The Public Health Department is headed by Col HAMIDU IBRAHIM (Rtd), who was a seasoned senior officer of NAMC and also a chief environmental Health officer to the hospital. Other professional staffs are;

  • Consultant Public Health Physician.
  • Three (3) Environmental Health Officers.
  • One (1) administrative staff.
  • Personal Assistance to the HOD (also an admin staff).
  • One (1) Health Educator.

Due to the importance of this department not just to the hospital but to the masses, the department is saddled with responsibilities which includes;
• Assuring an adequate local public health infrastructure
• Protect against environmental health hazards
• Prevents spread of communicable diseases
• Promote healthy communities and healthy behaviours
• Reduce morbidity and mortality among children and women of child bearing age.
• Integrated pest and vector control
• Disinfection and decontamination of the hospital and its environs
• Preparing for and responding to emergencies
• Proper management of medical wastes
• Ensuring food hygiene at all time
• Health Education to the populace
• Ensure high sanitary and hygiene of the hospital environment
