Department

Food is fundamental to patients’ care, failure to provide adequate nutrition can delay recovery time, increase complication rates, and extend the length of stay in the hospital. Specific attention to nutrition is required for hospitalized patients due to increased requirements and often reduced appetites. The overall approach is to ensure patients have access to the food that meet their nutritional needs and contributes to their sense of well-being.

The services render by the Nutrition and Dietetics department is the Special diet kitchen within the main kitchen, which caters for patients who require special and modified diets. Other are; the system of services, choice of menu and the method of delivery.

The hospital food service is of two aspects; that is dietary service which is the primary objective of the department to provide individualized nutritional care to patients with normal diets and patients with special diets. The Catering section provides general meals for hospital staff, patients’ relations, visitors etc.

The importance of the department is not only to give clean, safe, therapeutic and timely supply of food but to demonstrate value of adequate diet and train others to follow it. Based on this background, the department functions from 6:30am to 7:30pm everyday including holidays.

We have a team of dedicated and qualified clinical staff, Dietitians, Diet Cooks, Caterers and Cooks who are specifically trained to focus on providing comprehensive, personalized and ethical nutrition care that meet each patient’s needs. We endeavour to listen to our patients and advise on the best course of treatment. We also aim at continued staff education and skill acquisition.
