Chief Nursing Superintendent (CNS)

On the 20th of February 2024, the Chief Nursing Superintendent (CNS) at Army Command and NAOWA Hospital assumes office as the first serving Army officer as the CNS.

Lt Col Suleiman AMA was born in Wukari LGA of Taraba State. He had both his primary and secondary education in Kaduna state between 1980 to 1993 respectively. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from KAAF University College, Ghana and a Masters Degree in Disaster and Emergency Management, University of Abuja.

MILITARY CAREER AND COURSES ATTENDED

Lt Col S Ama was Commissioned on 8 December 2007 into Nigerian Army Medical Corps as a member of Direct Regular Course 15. He has proved himself as a professional soldier and earned his promotions when due, most recent of which was his promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel on 8 Dec 2021. He has attended several Military and Civil courses within and outside Nigeria. These courses include:

  1. Young Officer’s Course (Medical). Nigerian Army School of Medical Sciences Ojo, Lagos.
  2. Medical Intermediate Officers’ Course. Nigerian Army School of Medical Sciences Ojo, Lagos.
  3. Senior Executive Management Course (Medical). Nigerian Army School of Medical Sciences Ojo, Lagos.
  4. Basic Computer and ICT Management course. Nigerian Army School of Signals, Apapa, Lagos.
  5. Logistics Management Course, Nigerian Army College of Logistics, Victoria Island, Lagos.
  6. Training on Prevention of Maternal to Child Transmission and Early Infant Diagnosis of HIV, Abuja.
  7. Directly Observed Therapy for TB and Leprosy management, Zaria.
  8. Safe and Secure Approaches in the United Nations Field Environments. FHQ El Fasher, Sudan.
  9. Protection of Civilians in Armed Course at Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre Accra, Ghana.
  10. United Nations Staff Officer’s Course, at the Swedish Armed Forces International Centre, Stockholm, Sweden.

In the course of Lieutenant Colonel Ama’s career spanning about three decades, he has held several appointments. Notably among his appointments include;

  3. Ag OC Hotel Training Coy – Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria.

  5. Principal Nursing Officer – Gds Bde Medical Centre.
  6. Regimental Nursing Officer – 177 Guards Bn, Keffi.
  7. United Nations Military Observer (UNAMID) – El Fasher, Sudan.
  8. Principal Nursing Officer – 7 Div Hospital, Maiduguri
  9. United Nations Staff Officer (FHQ UNISFA) – Abyei, Sudan.
  10. Commanding Officer Administration – 44 NARHK
  11. Ag CNS – 44 NARHK.
  12. Ag CNS – ACNHA.

OPERATIONAL EXPERIENCE

Lt Col S Ama has also been engaged both locally and internationally at Military Operations with Nigerian Army and the United Nations foreign missions. These include:

  1. United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) – 2008.
  2. African Union -United Nations Hybrid Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) -2010, 2012 and 2018 to 2019.
  3. JTF (North East Operation Restore Hope II), Damaturu.
  4. JTF (North East) Operation Lafiya Dole, Maiduguri.
  5. United Nations Interim Security for Abyei (UNISFA) – 2022 to 2024.

In recognition of his dedication to duties, Lt Col S Ama was bestowed with the deserving honours and awards, these include:

Lt Col S Ama is happily married and blessed with a son. At his leisure time he enjoys Web Surfing, Watching Football and Table Tennis.
